Construction site summary
As part of the Blue line project, the purpose of this worksite is to build a new operational infrastructure required to operate the métro. The building will house electrical equipment and some office spaces.
Renovations at Saint-Michel métro station
Renovation work is in progress at Saint-Michel station. The work will involve modernizing and refurbishing certain parts of the station and is not related to the Blue line project. These types of asset maintenance projects are essential to the smooth operation and long‑term viability of our network.

Next step
- Work is set to begin in November 2025.
Public information session – Saint-Michel power station
On October 24, 2025, a public information session was held to inform residents about the start of construction on the Saint-Michel District Station.
Impact on customer trips
Details to come.
Impact on local residents
Starting October 14, 2025, four parking spaces reserved for Sector 51 sticker holders will be relocated. The spaces currently located on Everett Street will be moved to Shaughnessy Boulevard, between François-Perrault Street and 12th Avenue. The number of spaces available for sticker holders will remain the same.
This change is necessary to allow for the construction of the Saint-Michel power station.
Starting in late October 2025, work will begin on the construction of the new Saint-Michel power station. Preparatory work will first take place over a period of approximately five weeks, causing occasional disruptions in the area. The permanent configuration will then be set up.
Impacts during the work
Preparatory phase – In November
- The worksite perimeter will cover part of Sandro-Pertini Park and 10th Avenue.
- Parking will be prohibited on Everett Street.
- On Shaughnessy Street, traffic will be maintained in both lanes, but only between Saint-Michel Boulevard and Shelley Street.
- A pedestrian walkway will be arranged on the same side as the worksite on Shaughnessy Street.
- One southbound lane on Saint-Michel Boulevard will be closed, but only during off-peak hours.
Permanent phase – In December
- The worksite perimeter will be reduced in Sandro-Pertini Park.
- Parking and traffic measures will remain the same as during the preparatory phase.

Join your local good neighbour committee!
Do you live near the Saint-Michel power station and want to have your say in how the Blue line project worksite will fit into your neighbourhood this fall?
A good neighbour committee will be set up in the coming weeks as a space for dialogue between the STM and the local community. We’re currently looking for people who live in the area to join the committee and represent local residents at a few meetings per year.
The committee’s purpose is to:
- Provide information and outline the different phases of the project.
- Start a dialogue between residents and project representatives that will continue throughout the work.
- Discuss how the impact of the work will be managed so that resident members can share this information with their local community.
- Understand the concerns residents have about the work and find solutions together.
- Allow local residents to make suggestions on specific topics chosen by the project office.

A power station is an operational infrastructure that houses equipment needed to supply power to the métro network. There are currently 7 power stations located across the STM métro network. The Blue line project to the east requires that we update our electrical equipment to meet new energy demands.
We will also use the Saint-Michel power station building to house offices that will be used by métro operations employees.
No, this type of infrastructure does not generally generate noise or fumes. However, it houses diesel generators, which are very rarely operated. In addition, there will be a few STM service vehicles parked behind the building.
Keeping the existing building, located at 7355 Saint-Michel Boulevard, was not feasible, as it does not meet all our specific requirements. Métro operational infrastructures must comply with a variety of internationally recognized standards. It is also important to know that the new equipment will be particularly massive and voluminous, which requires custom construction.
Yes, that is our intention. Renovation work are planned for the coming years inside the station, but it will remain functional despite certain constraints.
