Competition to design a new bus shelter - The latest news!
With regards to the competition to design a new bus shelter, the Ville de Montréal and the STM have revealed the winning proposal in the bus shelter design competition, which was developed by the consortium of Leblanc + Turcotte + Spooner.
Featuring a self-supporting structure, the proposed concept allows for the creation of basic models between which other units can be connected so as to create configurations of various sizes able to accommodate a greater number of transit users. A dedicated communications frame could feature various components such as dynamic displays, a security camera and backlit advertising posters. The bus shelter would be able to integrate Wi-Fi technology and be equipped with an interactive digital interface enabling users to query the system or make direct contact with the control centre in the event of an emergency. A solar energy system is also planned for lighting the structures in locations without access to the electrical grid.
The STM will issue a call for tenders between now and the spring of 2010 for the building of prototypes for the bus shelter and its various elements. The firm selected will be required to use the services of the winning team. The STM will then evaluate these prototypes and carry out surveys among its clients to solicit their opinions.
