Electrical substation

You are invited to take part in a public consultation about the project to refurbish the Lionel-Groulx electrical substation, located behind the entrance building to its namesake station. This work is necessary to ensure the longevity of the metro network’s power supply system, as existing equipment has reached the end of their useful life. More specifically, the project involves the construction of a new building, at the same location where the Lionel-Groulx garage stands today, between Greene Avenue and Rose-de-Lima.

To carry out the refurbishment project for the Lionel-Groulx electrical substation and, specifically, the construction of a new building, the STM must seek to obtain a by-law by Montréal’s Agglomeration Council enacting the urban planning rules the STM must abide by to perform the work.

To obtain this by-law, the STM must first conduct a public consultation, in accordance with its corporate policy PC 1.14 Politique de consultation publique-réseau du métro (public consultations – métro system).

  1. STM’s board of directors is initiating the consultation process by setting up a Commission.
  2. Sitting on this Commission are a chairman and two commissioners chosen from outside the STM and mandated by the STM board.
  3. Citizens are informed through various communication channels, including the STM website, newspapers, signage on targeted worksites, as well as the distribution of an invitation in residential mailboxes.
  4. The Commission will be holding:
    1. A public information session presenting the project, followed by a question period
    2. Forum for voicing comments and opinions
  5. Afterwards, commissioners will table their report with the STM along with their recommendations. The Commission’s work will end with tabled report.
