OPUS allows you to charge several regular STM fares and also contains your transfer.

Replacement guarantee

When your OPUS card is registered, you are covered by the replacement guarantee if your card is lost or stolen. Read the Replacement guarantee section for more details.

You can also take advantage of an annual subscription to monthly fares. To subscribe to the OPUS à l’année (Annual OPUS) service and receive your OPUS card at home, consult the OPUS à l’année section.

On the 15th of each month, the cost of the monthly fare for the following month will be debited to your credit card or to your bank account, depending on the method of payment you have selected. It’s as simple as that!

OPUS & Cie

The new OPUS & Cie program is intended for companies who want to promote the use of public transit among their employees. It involves annual subscriptions for 12 regular fare monthly passes, valid on the island of Montréal.

Companies joining the program agree to make a financial contribution toward the purchase of OPUS & Cie monthly passes by their employees. In turn, the STM agrees to match that discount, up to a maximum of 10%.

Where to obtain and charge a regular fare OPUS card

You can buy your regular fare OPUS card from the fare collectors in the métro stations or at participating points of sale.

When you purchase your card, you must load at least one transit fare.

You can recharge it:

  • in the métro stations, at the fare booth* or at the fare vending machines or recharging terminals**
  • at participating points of sale

Regular fare clients can pay their fare in cash on the buses (exact amount only) and to the fare collector in the métro.

In the event of a broken or non-functioning card

You must drop by the Customer service centre  or one of the Customer STM service points in person to obtain a new OPUS card. Before proceeding towards Customer Service, you must pay the required fare in accordance to the current By-law. (R-105: By-law on the conditions in terms of possession and use of any ticket issued by the Société de transport de Montréal.

If your OPUS card is lost or damaged due to inappropriate use, you must pay the $6 cost for the purchase of a new card.

If your OPUS card is defective, it will be replaced free of charge.

Service life of OPUS cards

Anonymous OPUS cards expire after four years. To find out when your card reaches its expiry date and how to have it replaced free of charge, go to carteopus.info
