STM maintenance workers on strike
Schedule of essential services

Montreal, May 21, 2007 - Because of the decision by the Syndicat du transport de Montréal (CSN) to go on strike at one minute past midnight this May 22, STM transit services will be provided according to the schedule approved by the Essential Services Council. Consequently, buses and métro will operate Monday to Friday, from 6 to 9 am, from 3:30 to 6:30 pm and from 11 pm to 1 am. On Saturdays and Sundays, they will run from 6 to 9 am, 2 to 5 pm and again from 11 pm to 1 am.

Paratransit services will be provided in full as usual.

The STM asks that clients be lenient toward bus drivers, métro operators and fare collectors, as they are in no way responsible for this situation.

When planning their transportation under these circumstances, transit users are invited to consult the STM’s information tools, including its website at  www.stm.info for useful transit information, AUTOBUS (514 288-6287) for bus timetables and STM-INFO (514 786-4636) for travel directions. The métro’s first and last departure times are also posted on métro station entrance doors. STM staff will also be strategically positioned throughout the métro network to hand out essential services’ timetables and answer any questions transit users may have.

The STM fails to understand the decision by the Syndicat to go on strike. The STM was willing to accept the union’s proposal about the pension fund, as long as it respected the company’s financial situation. The Syndicat cannot only take what it wants without giving anything in return. The STM wants a package agreement.
