Press release

Major renovation work requires the closing
of the south entrance to Du Collège métro station
from May 25 to August 15, 2010

Montréal, May 13, 2010
Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform clients that it must temporarily close the south entrance to Du Collège métro station so that major renovation work may be carried out from May 25 to next August 16.

The repair work will mean:
  • The relocation of the following bus stops on Du Collège, west of Décarie boulevard:
    • 76 – Mc Arthur
    • 214 – Des Sources
    • 220 – Kerian
  • A longer walking distance for transit users, from the north to the south entrance, to reach the following bus stops:
    • 175 – Griffith / Saint-François
    • 202 – Dawson
    • 460 – Métropolitain

Also, the renovations make it necessary to modify the eastbound 117 – O’Brien bus route. Clients can consult the temporary route map available on the STM website (www.stm.info, in the STM Works section). Also, signs will be posted to inform and direct transit users.

The repairs will consist mainly of demolishing the entrance building’s structural slab and pouring a new one, with the addition of a waterproofing membrane, repairing staircases and floor finishes, installing new windows, replacing the entrance building’s indoor and outdoor lighting, as well as resurfacing the asphalt. Moreover, the station’s stained glass panels will undergo major restoration work by their original artists (Osterrath / Favretti), with the help of experts from the Centre de Conservation du Québec (CCQ).

Knowing that this will somewhat disrupt clients’ habits around the station, the STM wants to reassure clients that every necessary measure has been taken to ensure public safety and minimize any related inconvenience. The repair work is part of phase II of the Réno-Stations programme. Transports Québec and STM are financial partners in carrying out this programme.
