From June 2 to September 5, 2008 Georges-Vanier métro station closed for major work

Press release

From June 2 to September 5, 2008
Georges-Vanier métro station closed for major work

Montreal, May 26, 2008 The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform clients that, in order to carry out major work, it must temporarily close Georges-Vanier station. Access to the station will therefore be denied at all times, beginning June 2 until September 5 inclusively.

Aware that this closure will impact on the commuting habits of transit users, the STM wishes to reassure clients that it will implement a shuttle bus service that will run every 10 minutes, during the station’s usual business hours, between Georges-Vanier, Lionel-Groulx and Lucien-L’Allier stations during renovations.

Moreover, as it will not be possible to purchase transit fares at Georges-Vanier station while work is carried out, the STM invites clients to purchase them ahead of time in another station.

Renovation work during this period will mainly consist of completely demolishing the escalators and floor slab in the station’s entrance, of rebuilding the floor slab, staircases, windows and sidewalk outside. Work will be carried out as part of phase II of the Rno-Stations project.

It should be noted that Transports Québec and the STM are financial partners in the realization of this programme.

The STM regrets any inconvenience this station closing could cause and thanks clients for their patience and understanding.
