Additional service
on the 173 métrobus Victoria
and 190 métrobus Lachine bus routes

Montreal, June 26, 2008 The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is announcing that service will be expanded on the 173 – métrobus Victoria and 190 – métrobus Lachine bus routes. From now on, they will provide continuous daytime service on weekdays, with 20-minute intervals during off-peak periods.

The improvements will be rounding out the offer of service to clients, who already enjoyed rush hour service on these routes. Indeed, a total increase of some 4000 hours of service a year made it possible to extend the period of service on these express routes.

“Such improvements reflect our determination to increase the offer of service during off-peak periods to meet the needs of clients who are traveling during off-peak periods in increasing numbers,” declared Claude Trudel, chairman of the board of directors. “Moreover, the population in the Lachine sector shows an important potential for growth in terms of public transit ridership.”

“My borough council colleagues and I welcome the news about the increase in service on the 173 and 190 bus routes, as it will be possible for more Lachine residents to use public transit, more frequently. We are convinced that with such improvements and the STM’s cooperation, we will continue to work toward reaching our goal of making Lachine an even more attractive place to live. We feel this goal can only be reached through public transit service improvements,” emphasized Claude Dauphin, mayor of Lachine borough.

In the last few years, the STM introduced a series of measures in Lachine borough, namely the new 173 – métrobus Victoria and Norman public taxi in 2005, as well as service improvements to both Norman and Gare Lachine public taxi services in 2007.

Planibus timetables for the 173 and 190 bus routes, valid from June 23 to August 30, are available aboard buses until June 27. Transit users can also pick one up at all times from the Customer Service Centre at Berri-UQAM station or download an electronic version from the STM website.
