Taxibus Service in Anjou Borough
Renewed partnership agreement
Montreal, 31 October 2002 Members of the STMs Board of Directors approved the renewal of the financial partnership agreement with the City of Montreal, Anjou borough, in order to maintain the Taxibus service introduced three years ago.
Implemented on October 4, 1999, the public taxi serves the business park, a rapidly developing sector in Anjou borough. It provides a link during morning and afternoon rush hour between the business park and the 28 Honoré-Beaugrand and 194 métrobus Rivière-des-Prairies bus stop on Ray-Lawson Boulevard.
Public taxi ridership has steadily grown since it was first introduced. Indeed, in October 1999, only about 14 people a day used the service; 2002 has seen that average increase to 40 passengers using the Taxibus on a daily basis, while the cost per trip has been cut by more than half. Should cost-effective ridership levels be reached during the time of the agreement, transportation would then be provided by buses and integrated into the STMs regular transit network.
The STM also provides public taxi services in Senneville, Sainte-Anne-
de-Bellevue and Lachine. A new Taxibus route will also be introduced in LZle-Bizard in early November.
