Mont-Royal station: Major universal accessibility work begins

News

By the end of September, Mont-Royal station’s entrance building will begin its major transformation with an expansion to enable the installation of two elevators.

The current entrance building will be completely demolished to make way for a brand-new building with a design focused on light and transparency, which will also include a green roof. The work will also involve the addition of new stairs leading to the platforms, the addition of a walkway linking the two elevators, the construction of a fare booth at street level for the relocation of the fare collection area, and the construction of three natural light shafts.

Work on the $35 million project will last until 2022. The station, which is used by some 5.1 million people annually, will remain open for the full duration of the work.

The main hindrance will be the closure of Berri Street and the relocation of bus stops on Mont-Royal Avenue starting in spring 2019.
