Montreal, December 22, 2016 – The STM, in partnership with Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Videotron, is pleased to announce that the Du Collège and Côte-Vertu metro stations on the Orange line and the Côte-des-Neiges station on the Blue line are now connected to the mobile network, which uses state-of-the-art technology, notably 4G and 4G LTE.

A total of 15 new stations were brought on line in 2016. In an effort to continuously improve the customer experience for their users, the STM and its partners are now proud to offer full mobile connectivity between the Mont-Royal and Côte-Vertu stations on the Orange line. The Yellow line is fully connected, but work is still ongoing on the Blue and Green lines. On the latter, riders can already enjoy using their devices between Lionel-Groulx and Beaudry.

With these latest developments, the mobile network implemented by Bell, Rogers, Telus and Videotron is now available in 30 of our 68 stations. STM customers can use their devices to browse the Internet, watch videos, stream music, make and receive calls and more in the cars, tunnels and stations. Montreal is one of the few cities in the world whose subway system is equipped with a 4G LTE mobile network.

Coming in 2017
In the year ahead, the STM and its partners will focus on continuing work on the Blue line and in the stations and tunnels north of Mont-Royal station on the Orange line.

Aiming for full connectivity by 2020
Initiated in 2014, the project remains within budget and on schedule. By 2020, all 71 km of the STM metro network should be covered. Deploying the mobile network in the metro is made possible by an investment of approximately $50 million provided equally by telecom providers Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Videotron.
