The STM joins the Grande corvée movement of solidarity

Press release

Montréal, June 10, 2011   The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is responding to the call from SOS Richelieu and is joining the immense movement of solidarity by providing buses, personnel and its public transit expertise to support the Grande corvée on June 11 and 12 and June 18 and 19. “The STM and its employees are touched by the flood victims’ situation,” explained Mr. Yves Devin, Director-General of the STM. “We hope that our contributions will help the residents get back to a normal life as quickly as possible.”

Buses will be put at the disposal of organizers to provide free public transit to volunteers departing from Montréal, more precisely, from the Radisson, Henri-Bourassa and Angrignon métro stations to the central terminus located in Saint-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu.

The STM will also provide conveyance vehicles for the transport of light equipment between the various service points during the clean-up. The STM’s Réchaud-bus, a brightly-coloured bus converted into a mobile canteen, will be on location, and STM employees will hand out free hot dogs to the volunteers.

It should be noted that a collection organized by the STM on May 12 to benefit the Red Cross and SOS Richelieu raised more than $6 000 for the flood victims.
