Montréal, September 22, 2011 – The STM invites the public to make the most of bus and métro for their fall shopping and enjoy even more savings as part of another Fun Shopping With Us event. A collaboration between the STM and Société de développement commercial Pignons rue Saint-Denis, the shopping event takes place September 22 – 25, during the Saint-Denis St. sidewalk sale.
In an effort to encourage Montrealers to take public transit to go shopping, over 70 local retailers will take part in the event by displaying the Society in Motion symbol within their establishment and offering discounts to OPUS cardholders and anyone with a valid STM fare. Furthermore, a Society in Motion brigade sporting video screens will be taking to the street along Saint-Denis to offer additional discounts to many lucky shoppers.
‘The STM is developing sustainable partnerships with business owners to encourage Montrealers to do their shopping locally using public transit,’ said STM chairman Michel Labrecque, who concluded by adding ‘That is the idea behind our promotional campaign, one that is also an invitation to rediscover local shopping districts while doing our share for the environment.’
For the STM, local business owners are important allies. Indeed, the STM makes promotional tools available to retailers who want to encourage their own customers to take transit, including the Society in Motion sticker, a strong symbol of support, as well as a trip calculator to install on their website, that provides directions for travelling from any address to the retailer’s store by bus and métro.
