STM is introducing a new
shared taxibus service in Baie-D’Urfé
Montréal, August 19, 2010 – In an effort to improve public transit service in Montréal’s West Island, Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will offer a new on-call, shared taxibus service in Baie D’Urfé as of next August 23. The new service will be available all day, Monday to Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Two evening departures will also be offered one week night, Thursday, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Featuring 24 stops, the taxibus route will serve Maxwell Residence, as well as the main landmarks in Baie D’Urfé, including the commuter train station, Plaza Baie D’Urfé, the public library and town hall, Red Barn recreation centre and Fritz Hall community centre. “The added shared taxibus service is in answer to requests by citizens in the area to facilitate local mobility through public transit, particularly for seniors,” declared STM Chairman, Michel Labrecque. “Financed equally by Transports Québec and Montréal Urban Agglomeration, as part of the Public Transit Service Improvement Programme (PASTEC), the new service is the result of STM and Baie D’Urfé elected officials working together.” “The Town of Baie-D’Urfé is very grateful to the STM and Transports Quebec for this much-anticipated public transit improvement in our territory. Previously, public transit was non-existent within the Town. Both our senior and train commuter populations will benefit from this shared taxibus service,” added Maria Tutino, Mayor of Baie-D’Urfé. Morning and afternoon rush hour service timed with commuter train schedules
The offer of service consists of up to six departures heading to Baie-D’Urfé train station during morning rush hour, and of seven return trips from the train station in the afternoon. In the morning, service will only be offered between the route’s various stops and the station for train departures between 6:57 and 8:27 a.m. heading downtown. In the afternoon, service will only be provided from the train station to the other stops, between 3:59 and 6:21 p.m., timed with the commuter trains arriving from downtown Montréal. Customized service between rush hour periods
The taxibus service will also offer 12 departures, one every 30 minutes, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. between any given stop along the route in order to ensure greater mobility for residents, particularly seniors, within Baie-D’Urfé. No set route has been pre-established, as it will vary daily according to reservations by clients. Indeed, transit users must reserve a seat at least one hour ahead of time by calling the CO-OP des propriétaires de taxi de l’Ouest métropolitain at 514 636-6666. Clients can also visit the STM website (www.stm.info) for more useful transit information. Moreover, shared taxibus fares are the same as those for the integrated bus and metro system, so clients need only show the driver a valid STM transit fare. STM also provides nine other shared taxibus services, namely Avenue Phillips (Senneville), Lachine train station, Nuns’ Island, L’Île-Bizard, Rue Norman (Lachine), Lachine industrial park, Sainte-Marie district (Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue), Chemin Senneville and Technoparc Montréal (Saint-Laurent). – 30 –
