STM public taxi service in the Borough of Lachine
will start earlier in the afternoon

Montreal, February 14, 2007 - In the interest of improving public transportation in the Borough of Lachine, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will provide public taxi service from Lachine train station some fifty minutes earlier in the afternoon as of next Monday, February 19, 2007. With this change, passengers on the 16:03 train from downtown will be able to use public taxis to reach their destination.

Public taxi service provides transportation between the residential neighbourhoods west of 32nd Avenue and the Lachine commuter train station. The area in question is bordered by City of Dorval to the west, Highway 20 to the north, 32nd Avenue to the east and the St. Lawrence River to the south.

"Expanded public taxi service in the Lachine area will allow our clients to make the most of this existing transit service, " declared Claude Trudel, chairman of the STM Board of Directors. "Besides, this initiative is a perfect example of the STM’s efforts to adapt its services to the needs of its clients".

To take advantage of this service, clients must reserve a seat at least one hour ahead of time by calling the Lachine Taxi Company directly at 514 637-4444. They can also consult the STM website (www.stm.info) for more useful information when planning their transportation. Public taxi fares are the same as for the integrated bus and métro service.

The STM also provides public taxi service between Dorval train station and Lachine industrial park, in L’Île-Bizard, in Senneville, in the Sainte-Marie district of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, along Norman Street in Lachine, as well as between Place-Vertu and the Aldo distribution centre in Saint-Laurent Borough.
