STM is modernizing its website and optimizing the user experience

Customer information

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is now rolling out a redesign of its website offering more intuitive navigation and optimized content.

Faced with the need to upgrade its website due to the outdated technology of the older version, which is more than 13 years old, the STM took the opportunity to rework the content while incorporating features customers want.

With 80% of users accessing the STM website from a cellphone, the site was redesigned to optimize mobile navigation.

The content was revised to make it more accurate, simplified and search engine-optimized, so users can more easily find what they’re looking for.

The website has same URL: www.stm.info

Additions to improve the user experience

As part of this redesign, features have been added and updated:

  • The Near me page allows you to see all bus lines near your location or a specific location.
  • Detours and cancelled stops are now displayed on the Schedules page.
  • The Trip planner now lets you modify the proposed route to avoid a specific métro line or mode of transport, to minimize walking or transfers.
  • Taxibuses have been added to proposed routes in the areas served.
  • The Accessible routes feature can be activated with a click of a button, allowing people with reduced mobility to see routes adapted to their needs.

The STM website is viewed by 500,000 people per month, with six million visits per year. It is a key tool for customers looking for reliable information on routes, the organization or job opportunities.

The website was developed in compliance with WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility standards.
