Worksites active on Jean-Talon Street East as of September 25
Montreal, September 23, 2024 – The Blue line extension worksites on Jean-Talon Street East will be active starting on September 25. The street will be closed in various places in the coming months, with certain intersections blocked until 2029 or later. As of Wednesday, September 25, Jean-Talon will be fully closed at the corner of Pie-IX. Towards the end of October, the intersections at Viau and Langelier will be closed as well.
During the closures, Jean-Talon will remain open to local traffic between worksites, and there will be places where vehicles can cross Jean-Talon on the east-west axis. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times, and safe pedestrian walkways will be set up around the worksites.
Other worksites will gradually start up over the course of 2025, requiring more full and partial closures on Jean-Talon.
Reserved lane and changes to STM bus service
Starting September 25, buses 141, 188 and 372 will take a detour onto Bélanger between 19th Avenue and 30th Avenue to bypass the closure at Jean-Talon and Pie-IX.
When Jean-Talon is closed at the corners of Viau and Langelier in late October, a reserved lane will go into full effect on Bélanger. It will be open to buses, taxis and bikes only from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. It will run eastbound between 19th Avenue and Des Halles and westbound between Des Halles and 30th Avenue. Buses 141, 188 and 372 will be diverted onto Bélanger for this section of their routes, and there will be no bus service on Jean-Talon.
Over 26,000 STM customers take the bus on Jean-Talon every day. The purpose of the Bélanger reserved lane is to preserve strong east-west travel options during the work. It will be an essential mitigation measure to keep traffic flowing smoothly and efficiently in the area.

The project is a collaboration between five partner organizations: the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec, the Autorité régionale du transport métropolitain, the City of Montréal, the Société québécoise des infrastructures, and the Société de transport de Montréal.
