For the 29th consecutive year, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is partnering with the Montréal Bike Fest.
For the 29th consecutive year, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is partnering with the Montréal Bike Fest. On Bike-to-Work Day (May 29) and during the Tour de l’Île de Montreal, (June 2), the STM will offer several activities for participants and the general public.
“Montréal was recently named the most bike-friendly city in North America and the 11th best biking city in the world. The efforts made to earn this ranking must be continued. That’s why, for the past twenty-nine years, the STM has been a proud partner of the Montréal Bike Fest. This partnership is also a great way to pursue the STM’s objective of promoting the use of a “transportation cocktail” and making alternatives to car transportation more accessible,” affirmed Michel Labrecque, chair of the board of the STM.
On May 29, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., on Bike-to-Work Day, cyclists are invited to come to Lafontaine Park, on the corner of Rachel and Brébeuf streets. There, they will have a chance to try out the new bike rack that is already installed on sixty-five buses on eight lines across the Island of Montréal. STM employees will be on hand to answer questions about their use.
On June 2, during the Tour de l’Île, the Métro mascot will contribute to the festive atmosphere at the finish site, offering spectators a chance to win “Unlimited weekend” transit fares.
A muscial Tour de l’Île with the Metro Stars
In addition, after their successful début last year, the musicians in the STM’s Metro Stars program will be back this year to serenade participants. In fact bus shelters that won’t be needed because of the rerouting of certain buses will be converted to stages for the musicians. In all, five bus shelters will be decorated for the occasion and provide backdrops for the same number of musicians. Meanwhiile, other Stars will join the festivities at the finish site in front of one of the STM’s former New Look buses converted to a stage for the occasion.
Travelling to the Montréal Bike Fest by public transit
To accommodate participants in the Tour la Nuit and the Tour de l’Île, the STM will increase the number of bikes allowed in metro cars at the front of trains to sixteen.
During both of these events, people travelling with bikes will be able to enter and exit the system only at certain stations. Several bus lines will also be rerouted.
