Partnership between the STM and the Rogers Cup: the match will go on for the next four years

Communiqué

Montréal, March 7, 2013   – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and Tennis Canada are teaming up for the seventh year in a row to encourage tennis fans to take public transit during the week of the Rogers Cup tournament in Montréal, presented by National Bank. The STM, in cooperation with Tennis Canada, will offer free transit to ticket holders on the days of the matches they are attending. The agreement has been renewed for the next four years.

“This partnership with Tennis Canada meshes perfectly with the STM’s desire to induce people to leave their cars at home and take public transit during major sporting events,” notes Michel Labrecque, Chairman of the Board of the STM. “We truly appreciate the efforts made by Tennis Canada to promote the use of public transit. Last year, in fact, nearly 50% of spectators opted for bus or metro as their means of transportation to Uniprix Stadium.”

“We are proud to keep on encouraging the public to use mass transit to get to the Rogers Cup tournament,” adds Eugène Lapierre, Tournament Director of the Rogers Cup. “We are convinced that it is the best way to travel to the event site. What’s more, this commitment fits right in with Tennis Canada’s sustainability program. It is one of our many sustainability initiatives during the event.”

The 2013 edition of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank will take place from August 2 to 11. Tournament tickets are already on sale and can be purchased online at www.rogerscup.com, by phone at 1-855-TENNIS-0, extension 11, or on site at Uniprix Stadium in Montréal.
