The STM
presents the Salon national de l'environnement
Montreal, June 13, 2008 –
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is proud to present the largest
public exhibit dedicated to the environment in North America next June 13,
14 and 15 in Montréal’s Old Port district.
“Having signed the Charter on Sustainable Development initiated by
the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), the STM made a
commitment to place the emphasis on sustainable development, to influence
national policies, to facilitate employee training and coaching, and to
periodically assess the quality of its business practices,” declared the
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Claude Trudel.
“Because of its desire to bring about change and its conviction that, in
terms of the environment and sustainable development, every action counts,
the STM does not hesitate the make decisions, take action and move forward
with its approach to sustainable development. In light of this context,
the STM became the main sponsor for this year’s edition of the Salon
national de l’environnement, as the whole purpose for the exhibit is
in line with the STM’s environmental concerns,” specified Mr. Trudel.
With its theme « Passez au vert avec la STM » (Go green with the
STM), the transit corporation invites the population to take meaningful
action regarding the environment by encouraging people to choose public
transit. Indeed, visitors are invited to the STM’s stand where they can
take part in several activities, such as inspecting a hybrid-drive bus,
meeting with its experts, attending training workshops on
ecologically-sound driving techniques and getting hands-on experience with
a simulator, as well as finding out more about our information tools for
easier transit use and our service improvements programme (PASTEC). The
population is also invited to attend STM seminars.
