Agreement reached between the STM
and the Fraternit des constables et agents de la paix de la STM
Montreal, June 19, 2007 - The
Chairman of the STM Board of Directors, Claude Trudel, is pleased to
announce that an agreement has been reached with the Fraternit des
constables et agents de la paix de la STM, representing some 150 members.
“The new, five-year work contract respects the STM’s framework for
negotiations and ensures the cooperation and support of a dedicated team
of competent men and women, at a time when it is about to undertake a
crucial phase in its development,” declared Mr. Trudel.
“This announcement arrives just as
we are starting a new chapter in the history of public security in
Montréal with the arrival of police officers in the métro,” explained Mr.
Trudel. “This represents a major change for the métro’s operational
security service, one that has played a leading role in the métro for over
40 years. Indeed, our constables – now known as inspectors – will mostly
be enforcing regulations pertaining to transit fares, in addition to
handling corporate security. As such, they will be working to help the STM
reach its business goals.”
The new work contract calls for
salary increases of 0% in 2007, 2% in 2008, 2% in 2009, 2% in 2010 and
another 2% in 2011. The main changes concern work organization and
operating procedures, aspects that should be reviewed in light of the
department’s new operational context.
The agreement was ratified by
members gathered in a general assembly yesterday, and was approved this
morning by the STM Board of Directors. “The signing of this first
agreement with one of our six groups of employees is excellent news for
the STM,” concluded Mr. Trudel.
