Transit-Secure:
The STM reacts quite favourably to the
Government of Canada's announcement
Montreal,
November 14, 2006 -
The Chairman of the
STM Board of Directors, Claude Trudel, is quite pleased with the
announcement made earlier today by the Government of Canada regarding its
Transit-Secure programme.
“ News of this
financial contribution by the federal government is obviously being greeted
very well, as it will allow us to proceed with important, security-related
projects”, declared Mr. Trudel.
Once implemented,
these projects will enable the STM to meet clients expectations, as well as
its own requirements with respect to prevention and other security issues,
with both day-to-day operations and potential terrorist acts.
Proactive in the
matter of security, the STM views this contribution as a step in the right
direction, as the safety and security of its passengers and clients has
always been a priority for the transit corporation.
“However, I feel it
bears repeating that the issues of security and safety are a constant
struggle for us. It is crucial that the federal government’s financial
contribution extends beyond the Transit-Secure program,” added Mr. Trudel,
who feels confident his message will be heard.
