The STM is road-testing articulated
buses
under actual passenger service conditions
on the 535 Parc/Cte-des-Neiges bus route
Montreal, 20 April 2005 -
Today and tomorrow, passengers using the 535- Parc/Cte-des-Neiges bus route
will have the opportunity to assess two different types of articulated
buses, one with front-wheel traction, the other with rear propulsion.
Carried out during morning rush hour, the road tests will serve to collect
comments by transit users. To that end, STM staff will hand out survey cards
for customers to voice their opinions aboard the buses. In addition, the STM
will soon be holding discussions with regular transit users. These focus
groups will comment on the interior layout and design of the buses, as well
as their comfort on the road.
This evaluation process has been made possible with the help of the Réseau
de transport de Longueuil (RTL) and the City of Ottawa (OC Transpo), who are
lending the STM conceptually different types of articulated buses for the
entire testing period.
Last March, the STM conducted a comparative analysis of the road-handling
aspect of the two types of articulated buses under winter conditions.
