Improved transit service in island's west
end
New express service as of March 21
Montreal, 17 March 2005 -
Beginning March 21, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will
introduce a new bus route, the 470 – Express Pierrefonds. Running Monday to
Friday during rush hour, the route will provide residents of Pierrefonds/Senneville,
Dollard-des-Ormeaux/Roxboro and Pointe-Claire boroughs with express service
to the métro.
From their departure point at the intersection of
Château-Pierrefonds and Pierrefonds Boulevards, buses will travel through
the borough’s main section on their way to Fairview terminus. From there,
they will run non-stop to Côte-Vertu métro station, which translates into a
significant reduction in travel times for transit users.
According to Claude Dauphin, Chairman of the STM Board of
Directors, « This new service is consistent with the goals set out in the
company’s 2004-2008 Business Plan, because it represents an additional 9,500
hours of service for transit users in the island’s west end. The STM
estimates that some 1,650 new passengers could opt for this bus route
morning and night. »
Better service for industry
As for the 216 – Transcanadienne, its route will also be
modified, making public transit more attractive to employees of industrial
companies located along the Trans-Canada Highway’s service road. Indeed,
beginning Monday, the 216 buses leaving Fairview terminus will use the
service road on their way to Côte-Vertu métro station.
Monique Worth, Mayor of Pierrefonds/Senneville borough,
is convinced that « residents using public transportation will appreciate
the STM’s efforts to satisfy customers. This represents another step toward
improving the quality of life for Pierrefonds residents, by fulfilling a
long-standing transportation need. »
Edward Janiszewski, Mayor of Dollard-des-Ormeaux/Roxboro
borough, declared that he was « happy to learn that this direct link to the
métro will also serve Dollard-des-Ormeaux, in addition to the other rapid
service bus routes (261, 265 and 268) already operating in the area. »
For more details about these new services, transit users
should call STM-INFO (786-4636) or consult the STM web site at www.stm.info
