For a swifter bus service
Over the next few years, reserved lanes and other bus priority measures will
appear throughout the island of Montreal.
Reserved bus lanes
A reserved lane is an excellent way to ease the circulation of buses.
Montrealers have been aware of this for a long time seeing that there are
reserved bus lanes in their city since 1990. Thus, it's good news to herald
that there will more and more reserved lanes in Montreal. But there's more…
Bus priority measures
Ways to speed up bus service, namely the bus priority measures, will
gradually be implemented in the streets of Montreal. Here are a few examples:
- Creation of limited stops bus routes, like the new 467 Express
Saint-Michel.
- Extending the duration of green light for buses at street corners.
- Addition of priority departure signal giving buses a head start over
waiting cars at traffic lights (vertical white rectangle or "candle
light").
- Clearer identification of rapid bus routes.
Consult this map to see where reserved lanes or bus priority measures are
planned in Montreal.
