Use public transit safely with children
Here are a few tips to ensure your family outings with public transit are safe and pleasant.
By bus
- While waiting for the bus, make sure everyone stands back from the curb.
- Aboard the bus, teach your children to hold on to the support poles.
- Remind your children that they must never put their head or limbs out the bus window.
By métro
- Teach your children to always stand back from the dotted line, solid orange line or yellow tiles marking the platform edge until the métro comes to a full stop.
- Let passengers exit the métro before boarding.
- Ask your kids to board one at a time without pushing or shoving.
- For greater safety, tell your children to hold on to the support poles if no seats are available. Do not let them sit on the floor.
- Tell your children to get ready to exit the métro one station ahead of time.
- Ask your children to stay put until the métro pulls into your station.
