Improved bus service in
Rivière-des-Prairies Identified as a priority during the Montréal Summit, the
Rivière-des-Prairies sector is expanding rapidly both in terms of
residential and industrial growth. In the spring of 2002, the STM improved
the rapid service routes connecting Rivière-des-Prairies to métro stations
on the Green line. Then, in August 2003, the STM improved bus service in the
industrial sector by offering workers the 148 – Maurice-Duplessis métrobus
service.
Improvements to local service in the sector is the last step in the process
initiated by the STM and area stakeholders. In that respect, the proposed
improvements are mindful of the concerns expressed by the local population
during the public consultations held in November 2002.
The new local bus service in Rivière-des-Prairies
Just in time for this year’s back-to-school, the STM will offer
Rivière-des-Prairies area residents with an additional all-day, direct
connection to Henri-Bourassa métro station. Another new bus route will also
provide continuous service to businesses located along Henri-Bourassa
Boulevard, between Lacordaire and De la Rousselière. And last but not least,
the modifications brought to certain bus routes will remove a number of
irritants from residential streets.
The advantages for transit users
The proposed improvements will provide faster commutes to area residents:
the STM estimates that more than 5600 transit users will save on their
travel time and, of those, 2000 will enjoy improved access to Henri-Bourassa
métro station. Employees of businesses located along Henri-Bourassa
Boulevard will also enjoy trying out the new bus route dedicated to their
sector.
Finally, area residents will also be happy to learn that bus service has
been removed from Gouin Boulevard between 4th Avenue and Fernand-Gauthier,
and that the frequency of service between Rivière-des-Prairies and
Pointe-aux-Trembles has also been increased.
