The STM will be conducting airflow tests in many mechanical ventilation stations during the night of October 25 to 26

Press release

Montréal, October 23, 2012   The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform the public that it will be conducting airflow tests without the use of smoke devices during the night of October 25 to 26. This process will require that certain ventilation stations remain in operation in Verdun, Southwest and Westmount boroughs. These single tests, taking place between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., are part of assessments being carried out in view of a major refurbishment project scheduled for summer 2013 in Jolicoeur station.

These tests will focus on two sections of the métro, between Angrignon and Atwater stations on the Green line, and between Place-Saint-Henri and Georges-Vanier stations on the Orange line.

The STM must conduct these tests to measure airflow speed in the tunnels and harmonize the worksite configuration according to various existing emergency ventilation scenarios. These tests will be carried out during the night when métro cars are not running in order to avoid falsifying data in the recording of measurements.

The STM wishes to reassure the public that every necessary measure has been taken with regards to safety and to minimize inconveniences related to these tests. This is precisely why they will be conducted at the end of the fall, in order to reduce the impact on the quality of life of neighbouring residents.
