The STM joins the second mobilization and awareness campaign by Défi-Climat

Montréal, March 23, 200
9 - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) takes pride in joining some 200 businesses and institutions in the Montréal area for the second DÉFI-CLIMAT campaign held in the workplace from next March 23 to April 24.

This year’s mobilization and awareness campaign invites all Montrealers to make a commitment, take action and choose responsibly among the 24 suggested habits one can adopt to help combat climate change. Each of these options is quantified in terms of lowered GHG emissions and results will be compiled throughout the campaign. To join in the movement, simply fill out the online form at www.deficlimat.qc.ca

“I challenge everyone who uses their car on a regular basis to take public transportation at least once a week, either to go to work, attend a show or sporting event, go shopping downtown or enjoy other recreational activities. Doing that would definitely help to lower GHG emissions,” declared the new Chairman of the STM Board of Directors, Michel Labrecque.

“Because each action counts, in the end, all of these small individual gestures can have a significant impact when they are carried out by many people. I can only hope that many of us will take part and take on the DÉFI-CLIMAT challenge,” said Mr. Labrecque, who also added that “Last year, with 1465 employees who registered their name with DÉFI-CLIMAT, the STM ranked first among the 132 participating businesses. This year, the STM is committed to meeting the challenge once again.”
