STM board of directors ratifies agreement with
Syndicat du transport de Montréal (CSN - Entretien)

Montréal, January 21, 2009 Yesterday, during a special meeting, members of the STM board of directors approved the agreement reached with the Syndicat du transport de Montréal – CSN representing 2 200 maintenance workers. The five-year agreement complies with the STM’s financial framework and, as such, calls for a wage freeze for 2007, followed by a 2% wage increase each year until 2011. The agreement also settles the pension fund issue at no additional cost for the STM.

“The work contract also calls for an agreement on performance improvements – a first – by the bus network’s maintenance department. The goal is to improve the offer of service that, in the end, will benefit transit users,” stated board chairman, Claude Trudel.

“The STM is pleased to have reached this agreement and wishes to thank Jean-Pierre Gosselin, the conciliator appointed by the Labour Minister” concluded Mr. Trudel.

The STM has already signed four of the six collective agreements, representing nearly 95% of its unionized workforce. Negotiations are on-going with the Syndicat des professionnels (about 220 employees) and the Syndicat des employés du transport en commun – CSN (about 190 divisional clerks).
