The métro: a winning formula to reach the Grand Prix
Montreal, 20 June 2006 - With the Formula 1 Grand Prix roaring through
Ile Notre-Dame next June 23, 24 and 25, the STM will be increasing métro service. Indeed, on the Yellow - 4 line, trains will run every 4 to 5 minutes, from the first departure in the morning until 6:30 p.m., while the number of trains on the Green – 1 and Orange – 2 lines will be adjusted to meet with demand.
Because of the large crowds expected to use the Yellow – 4 line, the STM recommends that transit users purchase their return fare ahead of time to avoid line-ups. For $17, racing fans can also buy a three-day Tourist Pass, providing them with unlimited access to public transit during Grand Prix activities. The Tourist Pass is sold in several métro stations, including Berri-UQAM, Bonaventure and Peel. See the STM website, under Fares, for a complete list.
As large numbers of fans are expected to use the métro to attend racing events, system-wide access to the métro with a bicycle will be forbidden until 7 p.m. on June 23, as well as all day June 24 and 25.
Bus service modifications
Slight changes will affect bus service around the islands. There will be no service on the 167 – Les Îles, heading to La Ronde, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. either Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Instead, transit users should take the 169 – Île-Ronde bus from Papineau métro station to reach the amusement park. The 167 – Les Îles, heading to the Casino, will follow its regular timetable between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As for the 168 – Cité-du-Havre, regular service will be provided on Friday and Saturday, although buses will not stop at Cité du Havre from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
When planning their transportation to any of these weekend events, transit users should call A-U-T-O-B-U-S (288-6287) for timetables at their bus stop. Timetables updated to daily events are now available from the STM website (www.stm.info) up to seven days in advance, as well as more useful transit information.
