New taxibus service in Lachine borough

Montreal, 9 February 2004 – Striving to improve public transit service levels in Lachine borough, the STM will introduce a taxibus service next February 16, 2004, providing a link between the residential sector west of 32nd Avenue and the Lachine commuter train station. The taxibus service will cover the area bordered by Dorval borough to the west, highway 20 to the north, 32nd Avenue to the east and the Saint-Lawrence River to the south.

Service will be provided by the Cooprative des propritaires de taxi de l’Ouest, from Monday to Friday, during rush hour, to the train station in the morning and back to the residential areas in the afternoon. Taxi trips will be synchronized with train departures and arrivals. Commuters simply need to reserve a seat at least one hour in advance by calling (514) 636-6666 and then head to the taxi stop at the designated time. CAM and TRAM passes, an STM ticket or valid bus transfer can all be used for payment; however, cash fares will not be accepted by taxi drivers.

According to Claude Dauphin, president of the STM board of directors and mayor of the Lachine borough, « This new service is a tangible improvement to transportation in Lachine, providing residents in these sectors with a public transit link to the Lachine train station. Moreover, il will allow the STM to assess  the ridership potential in this area. »

The STM offers taxibus services between the Lachine industrial park and Dorval train station, as well as L’Île-Bizard, Senneville and in the Sainte-Marie sector of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
