Winter is coming : The STM encourages its customers to plan their trips

News

With the first snow practically at our doorsteps, the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) reminds its customers of the importance of planning their trips in the colder months when service disruptions are more common.

The STM offers several customer information tools to provide network status updates:

  • Website: http://www.stm.info/fr/infos/conseils/se-deplacer-lhiver
  • Twitter: https://twitter.com/stminfo
  • Interactive Voice Response System: 514-AUTOBUS
  • Real-time bus locations
  • Real-time bus and métro occupancy levels on the mobile site allows customers to make informed decisions about their trips

The STM is ready

The STM is ready for winter, and our teams are standing by to mitigate the impacts of weather on customer trips.

Every year, in mid-November, our entire fleet of 1,900 buses is fitted with new front winter tires and rear traction tires, as per the manufacturer’s recommendation. Moreover, to increase efficiency, the STM has 5 service trucks that can perform fast roadside interventions (replacing windshield wipers, changing flat tires, etc.) to help keep the buses running, evening during difficult conditions, in addition to two tow trucks.

When weather conditions affect service delivery, teams are on hand to ensure safe trips for all by prioritizing service regularity. Other teams provide winter maintenance (snow removal, de-icing) at bus garages, métro stations and bus loops to minimize the impacts of weather on customer trips.

The STM works closely with the City of Montreal on all aspects of winter maintenance to ensure operational efficiency.

When weather conditions get really tough, the STM asks customers, where possible, to use the métro, which is underground and therefore protected from bad weather.
