My Alerts The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is proud to have renewed its agreement with 9 Montréal taxi providers to ensure delivery of its paratransit services.
The three-year agreement is valued at more than $50 million each year. The most significant change to the agreement involves driver remuneration. Drivers will now be paid at an hourly rate rather than using taxi meters, thus improving the retention of the approximately 1,500 taxi drivers who provide paratransit services. The agreement will come into effect on January 1, 2019.
Taxi’s provide 89% of all paratransit trips, while 11% are carried out internally by STM drivers in minibuses. Paratransit services deliver more than four million trips a year and have experienced 5% in annual growth for the last 10 years.
