The arrival of new AZUR métro cars means the gradual removal of MR-63 trains from service, and we wanted to give them a chance at a second life. Issued last March 15, our call for proposals ended June 1. In all, we received some thirty project proposals from design and architecture firms, schools (public institutions), business entrepreneurs, various other organizations and individual citizens.

The purposes given for these projects are many and diverse, but they mainly involve restaurants, multidisciplinary buildings and structures, as well as multiple-use rests or shelters, for both indoor and outdoor use.

These proposals will be analyzed by a cross-disciplinary selection committee over the next few months. Committee members include:

  • An STM representative from each of these departments: sustainable development, environment, architecture, major projects, rolling stock (métro), marketing, art and heritage assets;
  • An external representative from the design and architecture community;
  • An external representative from the art and heritage community;
  • An external representative from the business community.
