Good to know about reduced fare

To benefit from a reduced fare, you must charge your transit fares on a registered photo ID OPUS card. 1 2

Your guarantee in the event of loss or theft, a registered OPUS card allows you to replace your card and any valid fares that were on it when you reported it lost or stolen.

For children aged 6 to 11

How to obtain a registered photo ID OPUS card :

Print and complete the Application for a photo ID OPUS card

Go to the STM photo studio at the bus station located at 1717 Berri  Street, Montréal (Berri-UQAM metro station). Take with you:

  • the application form signed by a parent or legal guardian
  • $6 in cash to cover the cost of the card
  • proof of age (e.g., health insurance card)

If you have reduced mobility, you may also go to the Customer service centre or a point of service.

Children 6 to 11 may buy reduced fare tickets with the exact change on buses. They may also purchase 1- or 2-trip tickets from a ticket booth attendant in a metro station, even if they don’t have a registered photo ID OPUS card.

For students 12 to 25

You must meet these criteria:

  • Be a full-time student at an institution recognized by Quebec’s Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS)
  • Be 25 or less on October 31

How to obtain a registered photo ID OPUS card

Two ways:

1) At the STM photo studio, on or after August 1

  • Print and complete the Application for a photo ID OPUS card
  • Go to the STM photo studio at the bus station located at 1717 Berri Street, Montréal (Berri-UQAM metro station). Take with you:
  • the application form signed by a parent or legal guardian (for those under 14)
  • the completed application form bearing the seal of the educational institution as proof of full-time school attendance (for those 16-25)
  • $15 in cash to cover the cost of the card
  • proof of age (e.g., driver’s license, health insurance card)

Change in procedure for the issuing of reduced fare OPUS cards

From now on, only electronic proof of school attendance (tablets, smart phones, computer) will be accepted from students at the following institutions. It is therefore no longer necessary to print it out. At the STM photo studio, students will have to access their school’s portal and show the proof to the employee. If the student doesn't have an electronic device, a tablet will be available for use.

2) Tour of educational institutions (secondary schools, CEGEPs, and universities)

When classes resume, an STM photographer visits certain educational institutions to issue photo ID OPUS cards.

Have with you:

  • the application form signed by a parent or legal guardian (for those under 14)
  • the completed application form bearing the seal of the educational institution as proof of full-time school attendance (for those 16-25)
  • $14 in cash to cover the cost of the card
  • proof of age (e.g., driver’s license, health insurance card)

When a card is issued during the photo ID tour, the fares charged on the old card are not automatically transferred to the new registered photo ID OPUS card. To transfer valid fares, go to the Customer service centre or a point of service.

For seniors 65 and +

Print and complete the Application for a photo ID OPUS card

  • Go to the STM photo studio at the bus station located at 1717 Berri Street, Montréal (Berri-UQAM metro station), to the Customer service centre or a point of service. Take with you:
  • The completed application form
  • $15 in cash to cover the cost of the card
  • A photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, health insurance card)

If you have reduced mobility, you may also go to the Customer service centre or a point of service

If you have a Gold card, bring it with you, and we will replace it with a registered photo ID OPUS card free of charge.
