    Renewal period for the student OPUS card for the 2018-2019 school year starts on August 1st.

    How to obtain or renew a photo OPUS card?

    To obtain card, you have two options. Go to:

    1. STM Photo studio.

    The Photo studio is located inside the Gare d’autocars de Montréal, the main bus terminal.
      Berri-UQAM, 1717 Berri (near Ontario street).

    Monday to Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m


    Closed on the following holidays:

    March 30 (Good Friday)
    May 21 (National Patriots' Day)
    June 24 (Fête nationale du Québec)
    July 1 (Canada Day)
    September 3 (Labour Day)



    October 8 (Thanksgiving Day)
    December 24 (Christmas Eve)
    December 25  (Christmas Day)
    December 31 (New Year's Eve)
    January 1 (New Year's Day)

     


    2. Your school, on the day of the STM OPUS Tour, between mid-August and the end of October.

    $6 in cash to cover card fee.
    (Note: Students who turn 12 before October 31, 2017, must bring $14 at school session or $15 at Photo studio.)


     

    Proof of age (health insurance card, driver’s licence, passport, refugee claimant document, permanent resident card or birth certificate).
    NB .: Student ID card is NOT an accepted piece of ID.


     

    Your completed Photo OPUS card application form signed by parental authority figure.  


    Keep in mind:

    The photo OPUS card stays valid until October 31 of the year in which cardholder turns 12.

    - Be advised: Schoolchildren who turn 12 before October 31, 2017 must bring $14 during OPUS Tour or $15 at photo studio.

    - If you are an approved Transport adapté customer between the ages of 6 and 15, your Transport adapté identification on OPUS card already mentions « tarif réduit », so you do not need to get another photo OPUS card.

    The photo OPUS card is valid until October 31, 2018. The cost is $6. As of August 1, 2018, students may renew their photo card for two years for $15.

    If you are an approved Transport adapté customer between the ages of 6 and 15, your Transport adapté identification on OPUS card already mentions « tarif réduit », so you do not need to get another photo OPUS card.

    Photo OPUS card is valid for 1 year. Expiry date is on back of card.

    - Be advised: Students who turn 16 before October 31 of current year must have their application form stamped with school seal.

    - If you are an approved Transport adapté customer between the ages of 6 and 15, your Transport adapté identification on OPUS card already mentions « tarif réduit », so you do not need to get another photo OPUS card.

     

    To obtain card, you have three options. Go to:

    If you meet the following conditions, you could have your card issued online from the Intranet portal.

    Conditions:

    • Have a valid student card issued by Concordia, ÉTS, McGill, UdeM, or UQAM;
    • Be a full-time student at one of these universities;
    • Have a mailing address in Québec

    Note: You will need to go to the STM photo studio if:

    • You are a full-time student at two different academic institutions
    • You do not have a mailing address in Québec
    • You are a Transport adapté customer

    Note: Allow 7 business days to receive your OPUS card in the mail.

    Keep in mind:

    - Validity of photo OPUS card:   

    Each year, prior to October 31, you must take steps to renew your photo OPUS card, so that you may continue to enjoy a reduction on your transit fares. Your card’s expiry date is on the back of the card.

    - If you are an approved Transport adapté customer, you can also go to a Customer service centre or to a service point. You must also bring your Transport adapté identification card and show it as proof of admission. You can then request that your status as a Transport adapté customer and file number be added to your reduced fare OPUS card. This way, you only need show this one card when using paratransit services or the bus and métro system.


    To be entitled to a reduced fare OPUS card

    Student must have full-time status when applying.  

     

    To prove your full-time* student status, we accept the Photo OPUS card application form or your online school-form (for academic institutions with online document service), of your current session.

    Your photo OPUS card stays valid until October 31, 2018.

    N.B.: * Be ready to show that you are a full-time student at the same academic institution. You also can be a part-time student at two different academic institutions, but the total number of classes or credits has to be equivalent to a full-time status.


    What to do if your card is lost or stolen?

    Go to one of our service points and bring a photo ID card, so you can get a new OPUS card loaded with any remaining fares from the old one.
    You will only need to pay an OPUS card replacement fee.

    N.B.: All cardholders, including minors, must go in person, as a new picture will be taken on site.

    Frequently asked questions

    Who is eligible for the reduced student fare?

    Users eligible for the student fare are students who are registered full-time in an educational institution recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur (MEES) regardless of their age. Those students will be able to travel at the applicable reduced student fare.

    Is there a deadline to procure the reduced student fare photo OPUS card?

    There is no deadline. If you already have a reduced fare OPUS card, it will expire on the date mentioned on the card. It is still possible to have your card issued after that date, but you will not longer be entitled to the reduced fare until you can make a new request for a card.

    I am currently considered to be a part-time student for the fall term, but full-time for the winter term. Can I obtain the reduced rate right away?

    No, at the time of the application, the student must be enrolled full-time.

    As proof of full-time studies, we accept:

    • Certificate with fall session: from August 1 to January 5
    • Certificate with winter session: from December 20 to July 31
    • Certificate with summer session: from April 1 to July 31

    I am a part-time student at two different academic institutions.

    If you are a part-time student at two different academic institutions, and that your total number of classes or credits is equivalent to a full-time status (and that you fulfill all the eligibilty criteria), you can ask for a photo OPUS card.


    I am a full-time student and I would like to know if I can show up soon with my fall school schedule as proof of student status to obtain the reduced fare OPUS card.

    The schedule is not accepted as proof of school enrollment.

    Two options are available to you:

    - You can refer to your age category section on this website (stm.info/opusetudiants) to to obtain the form 'Application for OPUS card with photo'. No photocopies are accepted and form must not be dated by over one month.

    - Or, If your school is listed as an Academic institution with online document service, the documents you need are available through your school’s portal. You can go directly to the Photo studio and from there access your school’s intranet using your tablet, smart phone, or use an ipad made available to you;  in order to provide us with school form attesting to your full-time student status. No paper version is accepted.


    Can I obtain the photo OPUS card at the studio, upon presentation of my student card only (in replacement of the form)?

    No. The form is compulsory if you are age 16 and over. You can fill the form Application for OPUS card with photo on this website. Refer to your age category section to find it.

    NB .: Student ID card is NOT an accepted piece of ID.


    If my school enrollment certificate is available online, must I also have the STM form stamped by my school?

    No. Only the online certificate will be necessary.

    Go to one of our service points and bring a photo ID card, so you can get a new OPUS card loaded with any remaining fares from the old one.
    You will only need to pay an OPUS card replacement fee.

    N.B.: All cardholders, including minors, must go in person, as a new picture will be taken on site.

    Is it possible to renew my OPUS student card at a point of service?

    No. The renewal can be done only either :

    - During the visit of the STM photographer if your institution offers it .Click here to to see if your school takes part in the OPUS Tour and mark your calendar.

    - At the Photo Studio located in the bus terminal (1717 Berri, near Ontario).

    - Online! Only for students of Concordia, ÉTS, McGill, UdeM and UQAM, directly from their intranet portal.


    I missed the photographer’s visit to my school. Where can I renew my card?

    At the Photo Studio located in the bus terminal (1717 Berri, near Ontario). Bring one piece of photo ID containing your date of birth, and proof of full-time school enrollment if you are age 16 or over.


    Can I have a new OPUS card issued during the STM photographer’s visit to my educational institution, or is this only to renew the OPUS card?

    Yes. The school visit allows a new OPUS card to be renewed or issued.


    My school isn’t part of the OPUS card renewal STM photographer’s visit. Is it possible to do this at another school near me?

    No. Each institution structures the photographer’s visit according to its own students and group schedules and does not accept students from another institution.

    THE 2017 OPUS TOUR IS OVER!

    When the STM photographer visited my school,  I received a new card. Can I transfer the trips from the old photo OPUS card to the new one so I don’t lose them?

    Yes. During the OPUS Tour at your shool, the trips remaining on your old card will be transfered on your new photo OPUS card, except if there is a technical problem.
    In such a case, keep your old photo OPUS card and go to one of the Customer centres.

    N.B.: If your old OPUS card is at the regular fare (WITHOUT photo), keep it and use it until the fares run out, parallel to your new photo OPUS card.

    If your school is listed, the documents you need are available through your school’s portal.
    For security reasons, no photocopies of documents are accepted.

    Keep this in mind about the reduced fare

    Are you a full-time student? If so, you can qualify for a reduced fare. Remember that you need to renew your OPUS card with photo by October 31 of every year, so that you may continue to enjoy a reduction on your transit fares.

    The photo OPUS card is:

    • Proof that you qualify for the reduced fare
      To pay the reduced fare, you must load your transit fares onto this photo OPUS card.
    • Personal and non-transferable
    • Registered
      This way, your transit fares are automatically protected should the card be lost, damaged or stolen. To learn more.

    Your card’s expiry date appears on the back of it.

    • 6 to 17 years: 1-trip, 2-trips, 10-trips, weekly, monthly and 4-month passes, group fare card.
    • 18 to 25 years: monthly and 4-month passes.

    At any STM point of sale, in the métro from a fare vending machines or a ticket booth attendant. See conditions for each fare option. 

    Note: No transit fares are sold at the Photo studio.
