Bicycle-Métro: Travelling in Tandem
The bicycle-métro make up a winning combination if you're looking for an enjoyable and practical way to reach your destination. From an ecological point of view, travelling in this fashion is also an appealing option.
The Montreal Urban Community Transit Corporation allows passengers to travel by métro with their bicycle because it is conscious of the many advantages this offers. However, to avoid disrupting the passenger traffic flow and compromising their safety, the STCUM has enacted regulations intended for cyclists. Please read them carefully so that you can reach your destination without any problem.
Métro users, over 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult, may transport their bicycle from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and after 7:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday as well as all day Saturday, Sunday and holidays, on the condition that they board the first car of the train which can let in a maximum of four bicycles. However, as a safety precaution and to prevent disruption of passenger traffic flow, STCUM personnel can temporarily prevent access to a métro station or car to anyone transporting a bicycle . This is why bicycles are not allowed in the métro when certain special events are held. In case of interruption of the service, we recommend that you get in touch with our A-U-T-O-B-U-S Information Centre before your departure to make sure that bicycles will be allowed inside the métro stations.
Also, in order not to hold up passengers traffic, persons transporting a bicycle are asked to let the other passengers board and exit the car first.
The STCUM also requests that cyclists stay by their bicycle at all times and not let it rest against seats or any other métro equipment or installation. It is also strictly forbidden to ride a bicycle anywhere inside a métro station.
The STCUM has installed nearly 1,500 bicycle stands alongside most métro and train stations for the convenience of cyclists.
