More service on
the 175 - Griffith / Saint-François and
196 - Parc-Industriel-Lachine bus routes
Montréal, November 7, 2008 –
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to inform its clients that
service has been added to the 175 – Griffith / Saint-François and 196 – Parc-Industriel-Lachine bus routes.
They now provide continuous daytime service, running every 30 minutes between morning and afternoon rush hour.
These latest improvements round out the offer of service to transit users, who already enjoy rush hour service
on these routes. An overall increase of more than 6 000 hours of service a year has made it possible to expand
scheduled service on the 175 and 196 routes.
“This initiative makes commuting easier for workers in the Lachine and Saint-Laurent industrial parks, while
providing transportation between both boroughs during weekdays,” declared Claude Trudel, Chairman of the STM Board
of Directors. “Indeed, such service improvements fulfill the needs of transit users, who travel during the day in
increasing numbers.”
“This is excellent news for transit users in Lachine. The added service meets a real need, one that had been
expressed for some time now, by industrial park businesses and borough residents who work there, as they must
sometime travel to work during off-peak periods. The Borough and its partners will have one more tool at their
disposal to pursue their marketing activities aimed at promoting public transportation services in our borough’s
industrial sector,” indicated Me Claude Dauphin, Lachine borough mayor.
“From a sustainable development point of view, we wanted to make access to public transportation easier within
these two industrial sectors, as they attract thousands of workers each day. So by expanding the hours of service,
we hope to promote the use of these bus routes and, in the end, reduce car use,” emphasized Alan DeSousa,
Saint-Laurent borough mayor, responsible for sustainable development.
