Henri-Bourassa and Sauvé métro stations
will be open to public transit users
Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17
Montreal,
December 13, 2006 -
Most of the testing
and connection work needed to install a new signalling system, in addition
to telecommunications and control process equipment required to operate the
métro to Laval, was successfully completed last weekend by the Société de
transport de Montréal (STM), as mandated by the Agence métropolitaine de
transport (AMT).
“Thanks to the
excellent work carried out by STM staff in charge and to the AMT’s support
and cooperation, I am pleased to inform our clients that, contrary to our
initial expectations, both Henri-Bourassa and Sauvé stations will be open
and accessible next Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17,” declared the
Chairman of the STM Board of Directors, Claude Trudel, earlier today.
“As for the
temporary shuttle service organized by the STM, a survey of some 155 clients
show that 81% are satisfied with it, something the STM can take pride in,”
concluded the Chairman.
“The métro extension
project to Laval is going remarkably well. Last week, we announced that
phase four of construction work was completed and that the last phase,
preparations for implementing service, is about to begin. We are very
pleased with the tests carried out last weekend, and we are confident that
the combined expertise of the STM and AMT will very soon lead to the
introduction of safe, quality public transportation services for the benefit
of all transit users,” added AMT president, Joël Gauthier.
Lastly, in order to
maintain transit service, any residual installation work will be carried out
at night, when the métro is not running.
