STM fund-raising campaign
Over half a million dollars to
help those in need
Montreal, 8 February 2005 -
For a ninth consecutive year, active and retired STM employees showed their
overwhelming generosity during the corporation’s annual fund-raising drive
held November 1-30, 2004.
Indeed, while the campaign’s goal had been set at $ 425
000, in the end, the four beneficiary organizations received some $ 453
899.13. That sum was distributed as follows: $ 96 777.17 to Centraide for
the Greater Montréal area; $ 77 257.90 to the Québec chapter of the Canadian
Red Cross; $ 66 934.87 to Partenairesanté-Québec, and $ 212 929.19 to the
STM Réchaud Bus. On January 27, symbolic cheques were handed over to
representatives of each organization, with many STM volunteers in attendance.
Transit users also did their share
Clients also showed their generosity during the seventh
edition of Les Bonnes œuvres des employés held November 25, 26 and 27.
During that fund-raising drive, company volunteers collected donations in
designated métro stations for the benefit of underprivileged families. The
charity drive raised $ 60 804.18 from transit users, to which was added
another $ 9 944 collected from employees. Thus, a total of $ 70 248.18 was
used to purchase food to prepare Christmas baskets for some 600 families in
need from various Montréal neighborhoods.
The STM wishes to thank all employees, retirees and
transit users for their contribution to the half a million dollars that
provided a welcome relief to those in need.
