Montreal,
30 June 2004
– The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will boost métro
service next Saturday July 3 for the Mondial SAQ fireworks display by adding
trains on the 1 – Green, 2 – Orange and 4 – Yellow lines. Because the event
generates a significant increase in métro ridership and that it coincides
with the Carifiesta, no bicycles will be allowed as of 11 a.m. until métro
closing time.
The STM recommends that métro users purchase their return
ticket ahead of time to avoid waiting in line, as ridership levels are
usually much heavier after such an event than before.
For enthusiasts who would like to see the fireworks display
from La Ronde, the best way to get there once the Jacques-Cartier bridge has
been closed off is to take the 4 – Yellow métro line to Jean-Drapeau
station. From there, the 167 – Les Îles bus, heading towards La Ronde, will
take them directly to the amusement park’s entrance.
Bus Service
As for the bus network, service will be slightly modified to adjust to the
situation. Indeed, several bus routes running south of Sherbrooke (between
Papineau and Frontenac) will inevitably be slowed down. Buses assigned to
the 168 – Cité-du-Havre route will not have access to Cité du Havre from
10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. As for the 169 Île Ronde bus route, service will be
suspended as of 7:50 p.m., because of the bridge’s closing.
Between 8 p.m. and midnight, the following bus routes will
be modified:
- 10 – De Lorimier
- 30 – Saint-Denis/Saint-Hubert
- 34 – Sainte-Catherine
- 94 – Iberville
When planning their transportation to this event, transit
users should call A-U-TO-B-U-S (288-6287) for bus schedules at their stop.
