The STM compensates transit users

Montreal, 2 January 2004 – The Société de transport de Montréal will compensate holders of the November 2003 monthly CAM pass to make up for the inconvenience they experienced during the November 17-23 maintenance workers’ strike.

Two options for compensation
Transit users can be compensated in one of two ways. For those not purchasing the February CAM pass, a cash refund will be issued upon remittance of a November 2003 CAM pass. Holders of a regular fare card will receive $ 5.00, while holders of a reduced fare card will get $ 2.50. Customers must remit the pass at the specially marked fare booth in any one of the following 12 métro stations, from January 19 to 24 inclusively, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

For transit users who will be purchasing the February 2004 CAM pass, remittance of their November 2003 CAM pass will entitle them to a $ 5 rebate when buying a regular fare card ($ 54 instead of $ 59) or a $ 2.50 rebate when buying a reduced fare card ($ 28.50 instead of $ 31) at all the usual fare sales outlets. The February 2004 CAM will be available throughout the STM network as of January 25.

Why the February CAM?
The decision to compensate cardholders in February 2004 was reached for the following reasons. To begin with, when compensation was approved by the board of directors, the December fare cards were already on sale. Also, in January, because of the holiday season and school breaks, the STM sells an average of 20,000 less CAM passes than usual. In all fairness to transit users, the STM opted for February to offer the discount. As for weekly CAM hebdo cardholders, they were compensated last December.
