Depending on the nature of the incident, certain factors could lead you to believe that the STM is liable for the damages incurred on your behalf. Here is an information capsule to enable you to better understand the elements involved in a claim and the possible recourses.
Incidents that do not give rise to a claim against the STM
If you are the victim of a bodily injury aboard a motor vehicle belonging to the STM, you must make your claim to the Société de l’Assurance Automobile du Québec (SAAQ).
For additional information, consult the following internet site of the SAAQ.:
http://www.saaq.qc.ca/.
If your motor vehicle is damaged by an STM vehicle, you should contact your automobile insurance company.
For example, if an STM bus hits your bumper or mirror causing damages, you should contact your insurance company.
Lost objects
Under its constituent act, the STM is exempt from any liability with regard to owners who have lost objects in or on STM property or in STM rolling stock.
Criminal acts
If you are the victim of a criminal act in rolling stock or in immovables operated by the STM, you can make a claim to the C.S.S.T., which is responsible for the compensation to the victims of crimes.
For additional information, consult the internet site of IVAC:
http://www.ivac.qc.ca/accueil.asp.
