The STM plays a key role in the protection of the environment by helping to remove some 500 000 cars from rush hour traffic.

With more than a million trips provided each weekday, the STM contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases by some 430 271 tonnes of CO2 each year, while taking an active part in various programmes involving sustainable development.
