About STM inspectors

Security and Control service inspectors are appointed to act in this capacity under the Law governing public transit agencies. Their role particularly concerns the application of By-laws R-036 and R-105. They are also mandated to assist you if your safety is threatened. Please do not hesitate to request their help if assistance is required.

Failure to disclose your identity when requested by an inspector has consequences. Depending on the context, you may receive a fine for obstructing the work of an inspector under the Law governing public transit agencies. You may also be fined under the Criminal code for obstructing the work of a public service employee.

Riding Transit without paying is fraud

Once you are past the turnstiles, in corridors, on metro station platforms, aboard metro cars and buses, always have your validated transit fare with you. When fares are controlled, it will serve you as your proof of payments.
