The 467 Express, a taste of tomorrow’s transit Since the 467 Express Saint-Michel was introduced in March 2009, commuters have enjoyed rapid transit services on Saint-Michel boulevard, in addition to the 67 bus route, the STM’s busiest. Then, in August 2009, the establishment of a curb-side reserved lane along Saint-Michel boulevard helped to improve the flow of traffic for both bus lines. This summer, starting in August, two other innovations will be tested to improve both comfort and speed for passengers riding the 467: Bus stop announcements and priority measures at traffic lights. What is the bus stop announcement system ? The names of upcoming bus stop will be verbally announced over loud-speakers and be displayed on electronic screens. Some 50 buses equipped with the system will be assigned to the 467 route.Bus priority at traffic lights The system detects and localises the bus. When the bus is detected by traffic lights while approaching an intersection, either the green lights is extended or a priority light (a white vertical rectangle also called candle) is activated, giving the bus a head start over motorists.Even faster service The 467’s limited number of stops already cuts down on commuters’ travel time by 10%. By combining the impact of the reserved lane with the priority measures at traffic lights, the time saved could reach 20, perhaps even 30%. With 39 intersections and 50 articulated buses equipped with both the detection and bus stop announcement systems, the 467 Express provides a taste of the type of transit services that will be commonplace throughout the STM network in a few years.Share your experience with us Click here to answer a brief survey.
