STM

The STM in brief

Back to Summary

The STM Today

The STM provides 1.3 million trips on its system every day. Public transit, in addition to being an essential service, is,without doubt, a key factor in Montreal’s social and economic development. In fact, hundreds of thousands of people use public transit to go to work and to school as well as to other social and sports events.

These pages present the key facts about our enterprise, the 15th ranked company in Québec.

The STM Today

Section A provides an overall portrait of the enterprise. The description of its network and services, its customers and the evolution of its budgets and workforce will give you new insight into the STM.

Section B is dedicated to financing and the impact of governmental decisions of the last ten years on public transit. It also bears witness to the efforts made to reduce expenses within a particularly difficult context.

Finally, Section C points out its advantages while also setting out the consequences that a decline in public transit would have on the environment, quality of life and socio-economic development.

In reading these pages, you will see that public transit is the logical choice. Together, we’ll go the distance.

Claude Dauphin, Chairman of the Board

Jacques Fortin, Director-general
