Bicycles welcome

Bicycles are welcome in the metro, however stations are not a bicycle path…

With over 800 000 transit rides taken each day in the métro, cyclists must comply with the following safety regulations and directives when carrying their bicycle in the metro:

Be at least 14 years old or accompanied by an adult ;
Respect the time periods allowing bicycles, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays ;
Board the train’s lead car only with a bicycle ;
Respect the maximum authorized limit of 6 bicycles per lead car during summer season ;
Give priority to other passengers when entering or exiting the métro’s lead car ;
When riding the metro, hold your bicycle next to you, do not lean it against any seats or other equipment or installation ;
It is strictly forbidden to:

  • Ride a bicycle anywhere inside a métro station, or use a tricycle, unicycle, skateboard or rollerblades ;
  • Leave a bicycle, either temporarily or permanently, inside a metro station ;
  • Transport a motorized scooter, because of the gas tank. Refer to By-law R-036 that forbids the transportation of hazardous materials.

Major events sometimes result in restrictions on bicycle access…
For safety reasons, access to the metro may be denied to bicycles during major events that generate heavy ridership. Check the list of upcoming events.
Note: the STM reserves the right to restrict bicycles in the métro during any other event, planned or not, that may generate heavier than usual ridership levels.

Bicycle stands at each station
At all times, cyclists can easily park their bicycle close to a métro station. Indeed, each year, the STM makes more and more bicycles stands available to transit users.
